Purchases made outside the United States, money transfers, or through platforms like Venmo, CashApp, and PayPal. It also cannot be used for ATM withdrawals, buying gift cards (except for Amazon), paying subscriptions or bills, or for online purchases that exceed your card's available balance.
Check for outages and updates: Temporary service outages can prevent cards from being added, so check for any reported issues from Apple or Google. Make sure your device software is up to date, since older versions may have compatibility issues. Resetting your network settings and confirming your date and time are accurate can also clear up temporary glitches.
Check your device and account settings: Your device needs a screen lock set up (Face ID, Touch ID, Optic ID, fingerprint, or passcode), and your account should have two-factor authentication enabled. Confirm that your account region is set correctly and that your device is compatible with Apple Pay or Google Pay.
Check your location: Digital wallets are only available in certain countries and regions, so make sure yours is supported. If you're adding the card from a different region than usual, turning off location services for your wallet app can sometimes help.
Restart and sign back in: Restart your device, or try a force restart if a regular restart doesn't help. Signing out of your Apple or Google account and back in can also resolve sync issues.
Still not working? You can use your card directly on merchant websites instead. At checkout, select the credit card payment method and enter your card number, expiration date, and three-digit CVV2 code. A PIN is not required. For the billing and shipping address, enter your home address.
