Bang & Olufsen was founded in the small town of Struer, Denmark, back in 1925. Peter Bang and Svend Olufsen were two young Danish engineers characterised by very different personalities, raised in middle-class families at the birth of the modern times, when the roaring 20s began.
Despite the undeniable dissimilarities, both shared the same desire to experiment and the same entrepreneurial spirit which marked their whole life and career. Peter Bang was a passionate innovator, enchanted by the radio industry which was booming in the 20s. He became notorious because of his obsession with working at his creations: once he had an idea, he used to work on it 24 hours a day. Svend Olufsen was instead what we call today a people person, a charismatic and charming engineer who liked to do things in his own, unconventional way.
Peter Bang and Svend Olufsen were introduced by a mutual friend in 1925 and soon settled down, sharing the same commitment to the radio's untested technology, and gave birth to Bang & Olufsen.
As the business grew, the remarkable diversities between Peter and Svend became even more apparent. It was however this powerful fusion of complementary forces that drove the firm toward success, through their mutual passion for bringing the very latest technology into people's homes.
