Crypto Art has inspired us to launch a crypto art contest
The technology behind non-fungible tokens (NFTs) has led a revolution of sorts, in the world of art. NFTs are a unique variety of cryptocurrency token, which allow an artist to create an original piece of digital artwork which can be cryptographically proven to be authentic.
NFTs allow an artist to create a unique identifier, a digital DNA marker, so to speak, which can track the authenticity and provenance of a piece of art. They can use NFTs to create unforgeable artwork which is impossible to counterfeit.
An artist can also benefit from using NFTs to crowdfund an artistic work, or sell ownership percentages to many different art collectors, whose portion of ownership can be represented with NFT cryptocurrency tokens. This allows for easy transfer of ownership, the collector simply sends the tokens to a new collector when they wish to sell their interest in a particular piece.
NFTs began with Rare Pepes, a popular collectable meme trading card game based on Couterparty. They didn’t really resurface again until Crypto Kitties, a similar collactables DApp on Ethereum repopularized the idea, but they soon began seeing adoption by the art world. This has led to a rise of crypto artists, and a subgenre of art known as crypto art. Artists like Crypto Graffiti, Pascal “P-boy” Boyart, Lucho Poletti, BitcoinMemeHub, ThisisLudo, and Coin Artist have begun to issue original artwork using the NFT model.
Many artists now include Bitcoin QR codes in their murals and paintings, for donations from admiring fans. Other artists hide cryptocurrency in elaborate puzzles, where a private key is encoded in the art itself. They invite their fans to attempt to unravel the mystery and claim the prize of hidden Bitcoin.
This interactivity and gamification of art, has created a whole new experience, both for the artists themselves, and for those of us who enjoy the creative work they produce. It is with this perspective in mind, that we decided to announce our latest contest.
Since Bitrefill understands the importance of the circular Bitcoin economy, we want to extend an invitation to the artists in the crypto art world to create their best work of Bitrefill-inspired art.
How to Participate
- The deadline for artwork submissions will be Thursday July 30, 2020
- The contest winner will be chosen Friday July 31st, 2020
- To participate, create your best piece of Bitrefill-inspired artwork, follow, like, and retweet us on Twitter and tweet your artwork to us in our contest thread.
- The winner will win a $200 usd Bitrefill Balance Card.
- Bitrefill employees are ineligible
